Microsoft’s Swift Action: 15 Million Users Protected from ‘aCropalypse’ Bug Threatening Privacy

Microsoft has issued an emergency update for Windows to address a critical vulnerability called ‘aCropalypse’ that could have potentially threatened the privacy of users. The bug affected the image cropping of both screenshots on Pixel smartphones, and the vulnerability could allow cropped-out details from screenshots to be recovered by any user.

The issue prevented information from being removed from the source image, allowing it to be retained in the file and recovered later. Sensitive information such as bank card details, medical records, phone numbers, and social security information was at risk. Microsoft has urged users to deploy the update immediately to prevent personal information from being disclosed.

To install the fix, Windows users need to visit the Microsoft Store and select Get Updates on the Library section located on the left of the screen. Microsoft has acted swiftly in taking action against the bug and has asked its users to take prompt action to safeguard their personal information.

It is worth noting that this is not the first time such a vulnerability has been discovered on a widely used tool. Previously, Google Pixel phones had encountered a similar issue. However, Microsoft has taken appropriate measures to ensure that its users are not at risk.

In February, Microsoft rolled out a major update for Windows 11, integrating the new AI-powered Bing search engine with the Windows 11 taskbar. The company is also making inroads in the Web3 sector and is testing support for a crypto wallet on its Edge browser. The digital wallet has been built on the Ethereum blockchain and could allow users to store and hold Ether tokens and other Ethereum-based cryptocurrencies. The wallet is expected to be a part of Edge in a future update.

Overall, Microsoft is committed to providing its users with a secure and reliable computing experience. The company is continuously working to identify and fix any vulnerabilities that could potentially put its users at risk. Users are encouraged to keep their systems up to date and take necessary precautions to safeguard their personal information.
