OpenAI Launches Lucrative $20,000 Bug Bounty Program to Boost AI Security

OpenAI, the renowned research organization behind the popular chatbot, ChatGPT, has launched a new Bug Bounty program. This program aims to encourage users to report vulnerabilities in its AI systems, offering rewards of up to $20,000.

The rewards offered will be based on the severity of the bugs reported, starting from $200 per vulnerability. It is worth noting that the program does not cover incorrect or malicious content produced by OpenAI systems.

As part of the Bug Bounty program, OpenAI has invited researchers to review certain functionality of ChatGPT, as well as the framework of how OpenAI systems communicate and share data with third-party applications. This move is aimed at enhancing the security of its AI systems.

Bug bounty programs are a common practice among technology companies to encourage programmers and ethical hackers to report bugs in their software systems. These programs provide a mutually beneficial relationship, as the company can address vulnerabilities and improve its security, while the users can receive financial rewards for their work.

The launch of this program comes after ChatGPT was banned in Italy for a suspected breach of privacy rules. This has led to regulators in other European countries closely scrutinizing generative AI services.

Microsoft Corp-backed OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which was launched in November, has become increasingly popular with its quick responses to questions. However, it has also caused distress for some users with inaccuracies.

OpenAI hopes that its Bug Bounty program will help identify and address potential vulnerabilities, thereby making its AI systems more secure. This move further cements OpenAI’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of its AI systems.
