Apple, the world-renowned technology giant, has finally revealed the look of its first-ever retail store in India. The store is currently barricaded and will likely open its doors to the public this month. The upcoming launch has garnered much attention from the Indian public, with several people flocking to catch a glimpse of the store’s black and yellow artwork inspired by Mumbai’s iconic taxis.
India has emerged as a significant market for Apple in recent years, prompting the company to launch an online retail store in 2020. Despite its growing popularity, Apple has only managed to capture a meager 3% share of India’s smartphone market due to its high prices.
Apple has faced numerous hurdles in establishing physical retail stores in India, with launch plans delayed in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Apple products have been available for purchase in India for years, through e-commerce platforms such as Amazon.in and Flipkart, as well as through resellers.
India is also becoming a manufacturing base for Apple products, with some iPhones assembled in the country by Taiwanese contract electronics manufacturers, Foxconn and Wistron Corp. Apple plans to expand its manufacturing operations in India by assembling iPads and AirPods in the country.
The first Apple retail store in India is located in the prestigious Reliance Jio World Drive mall, which houses several luxury clothing and jewelry brands, including Michael Kors, Kate Spade, and Swarovski. The store’s design is inspired by Mumbai’s iconic Kaali Peeli taxi art, which has been an integral part of the city’s culture for decades.
On Wednesday evening, people were taking selfies and recording videos outside the store, with the Apple logo displayed in a variety of colors and a version of the classic Apple greeting showing “Hello Mumbai.” The store will sell a range of Apple products, including iPhones, iPads, Macs, and other accessories.
The opening of Apple’s first retail store in India marks a significant expansion of the company’s presence in the country. The move is expected to boost Apple’s sales and improve its market share in India, as more customers will have access to its products through the physical store.
