Apple users have been eagerly anticipating the upcoming release of iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, which are expected to bring new features and improvements to their devices. However, rumors had circulated that certain iPad and iPhone models may no longer be supported by the new operating systems.
According to recent reports, iPadOS 17 was rumored to drop support for the iPad Pro 9.7-inch, iPad Pro 12.9-inch, and the iPad fifth-generation. Similarly, a rumor suggested that iOS 17 would drop support for the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X models. However, a new report by MacRumors has contradicted these rumors and stated that all iPhone models running iOS 16 will receive iOS 17. This includes all iPhone models powered by the A11 Bionic SoC and later, starting with the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X.
The Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) in June 2023 is expected to provide a sneak preview of iOS 17 and other new operating systems, such as macOS 14, watchOS 10, and tvOS 17. Apple may also unveil updates for the MacBook Air. The current version of iOS is 16.4, which was released in March and added new features like focus mode, lock screen UI, and privacy layers. However, iOS 16 dropped support for certain older iPhone models, such as the iPhone SE, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7, and iPhone 7 Plus.
The report by MacRumors is welcome news for those who feared that their devices would no longer be compatible with the latest operating systems. With iOS 17 set to be released alongside the iPhone 15 series, Apple users can look forward to new features and improvements without having to upgrade their devices.
