iPhone 15 Ultra to Debut with 48-Megapixel Camera Sensor and 5-6x Optical Zoom

Apple is set to launch its iPhone 15 lineup in September 2023, and the range is expected to include four models: iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Max, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max. According to tipster Ice Universe (@UniverseIce), the iPhone 15 Pro Max might be marketed as the iPhone 15 Ultra.

One of the most anticipated features of the iPhone 15 Pro Max is its larger camera sensor. The current sensor on the iPhone 14 Pro Max is 1/1.28 inches in size, while the new sensor is expected to be a 48-megapixel Sony IMX903 sensor that is almost 1 inch in size. This larger sensor is expected to allow users to capture images with more details and light, but it could also increase the size of the camera bump on the upcoming model.

The adoption of the Sony IMX903 sensor on the back of the iPhone 15 Pro Max could help Apple to compete with recent Android smartphones from Chinese brands that already feature 1-inch sensors. Moreover, the iPhone 15 Pro Max could sport a periscope lens, enabling up to 5-6x optical zoom, as per recent reports.

Last year’s iPhone 14 Pro Max featured a 48-megapixel Sony IMX803 sensor, which was a significant improvement over previous models. In addition to the 48-megapixel main sensor, the camera units of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max include a 12-megapixel telephoto camera and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera. The larger camera sensors are currently limited to the Pro models, while the vanilla iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus feature dual 12-megapixel rear cameras.

With the expected launch of the iPhone 15 lineup, Apple is likely to set a new standard for camera technology in smartphones, and users can look forward to capturing even better photos and videos with their mobile devices.
