Google has finally put an end to all the rumors and speculations about its foldable device, the Pixel Fold. On Star Wars Day, the tech giant released a short teaser video on social media channels, showcasing the device’s design, hinge mechanism, inner display, and underlying software. And boy, does it look exciting!
The Pixel Fold appears to have a chunky camera module at the back, sporting three cameras and an LED flash unit. But that’s not the most exciting part. The hinge mechanism folds the two halves shut without a visible gap, giving the device a sleek and futuristic look. And when you open it up, the inner display greets you with a thick bezel, which may be due to the phone-to-tablet form factor and the need for easier handling.
The teaser video provides a good idea about the Pixel Fold’s software layout, which looks similar to a regular Android 13 home screen. However, since this is Google’s first foldable Pixel device, we can expect some exciting optimizations and features to be included. And speaking of exciting, the outer display has an Always on Display feature enabled, making it look more futuristic than ever.
While the release date of the Pixel Fold is yet to be confirmed, Google has hinted at a May 10th announcement, which also happens to be the first day of its annual I/O 2023 developer conference. And the Pixel Fold won’t be alone in the limelight, as Google will also be announcing the Pixel 7a and Pixel Tablet at the event.
The Pixel Fold’s form factor is closer to Oppo’s Find N2, which is shorter and wider when folded compared to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4’s narrow and taller design. We can expect more information about the device to be revealed during Google’s upcoming I/O 2023 developer conference. And if the teaser video is anything to go by, the Pixel Fold is set to be one of the most exciting foldable devices of 2023.
