WhatsApp Rolls Out Companion Mode Feature to Android Beta Testers, Allowing Multi-Device Use
WhatsApp has released its companion mode feature to all Android beta testers, allowing users to link their existing WhatsApp account to an additional mobile phone. This much-anticipated feature has been in development for some time and is an extension of multi-device support.
The feature reportedly allows users to access their chat accounts across multiple smartphones, making it easier for individuals to stay connected with friends and family on the platform. Users with WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.23.8.2 or newer can access the feature, but an official release date for all users has not been announced.
To connect WhatsApp to a secondary device, users need to download the new beta version of WhatsApp Messenger or WhatsApp Business on the secondary device. They then need to select “Link a device” from the overflow menu and point to the secondary mobile phone to scan the QR code on the primary device in Settings > Linked devices.
While the linked secondary device may not offer full functionality like the primary device, users will still have access to their chats and chat archives. However, managing broadcast lists and posting a status update may be limited to the primary device.
This news comes from a report by WhatsApp features tracker WABetainfo, and WhatsApp has not made an official announcement regarding the feature’s full rollout. Nonetheless, the companion mode feature is an exciting development for WhatsApp users, allowing greater flexibility in using the app on multiple devices.
