Samsung is reportedly gearing up to launch its latest foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z Fold 5, in the second half of 2023. According to rumors, the device will feature a lightweight build and a thickness of 13.4mm, making it the thinnest Galaxy Z Fold model yet. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 is expected to weigh just 250 grams, which is 13 grams less than the previous generation, the Galaxy Z Fold 4.
One of the key features of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is the rumored ‘droplet’ hinge design that could reduce its thickness further. Combined with an IPX8 build, this new hinge could result in a thinner and more lightweight device. The prototype of the device undergoing testing reportedly weighs 254 grams, further cementing the rumors of a lighter build.
Samsung was previously speculated to include a dedicated S Pen slot on the Galaxy Z Fold 5, but it was reportedly dropped due to weight and thickness limitations. Despite this, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is expected to pack in plenty of features, much like its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 4.
Launched in August 2022 during the Galaxy Unpacked event, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 features a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex Display and runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. The device is powered by Android 12-based OneUI 4.1.1 and comes with a 4,400mAh dual-cell battery that supports 25W fast charging.
Samsung is yet to officially confirm the Galaxy Z Fold 5, and the information about the device comes from rumors and a report by ETNews (in Korean). Nonetheless, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is expected to debut as the lightest model in the Galaxy Z Fold series, making it an exciting prospect for tech enthusiasts and Samsung fans alike.
